What Are Injectables?

Injectable treatments can fall into a variety of different categories, but the main two are known as neuromodulators and dermal fillers. Each of these injectable treatments works to temporarily reduce or eliminate visible signs of aging on the face; however, they differ in their formulations, longevity and the symptoms of aging they can address.

Neuromodulator injectables are designed to target the small facial muscles responsible for forming expression lines and wrinkles in the skin. When injected beneath the skin’s surface into targeted areas of the face, neuromodulators work to safely and temporarily freeze muscle movement to smooth expression lines and prevent wrinkle-forming contractions from occurring.

What Can I Expect From My Injectable Treatment?

Most injectable treatments are quick and convenient, lasting no longer than 30 minutes. Some filler products such as Juvederm are preformulated with lidocaine, a local anesthetic, to make the injections virtually painless and comfortable. In cases where the injectable product does not contain lidocaine, a topical anesthetic or ice may be used prior to your injections to minimize any discomfort during the procedure.

Is There Any Downtime Needed After My Injectable Treatment?

Immediately following your injectable treatment, you are free to leave our office and resume almost all normal activities. However, patients who have received Botox, Jeuveau, or Dysport injections should avoid strenuous activities for 24 hours after their treatment to prevent the possibility of migration. As minimally-invasive treatments, injectables produce very minimal, if any, side effects. You may experience some bruising, redness or swelling at the site of your injections; however, these symptoms should resolve within a day or two of your treatment.

What Results Can I Expect From My Injectable Treatment?

How soon you will see results from your injectable treatment will depend on the type of injectable or combination of injectables you received during your appointment. If Botox, Jeuveau, or Dysport were administered, you can expect your results to develop in about three to seven days of your treatment. Botox, Jeaveau and Dysport injections last between three to four months before your next injections will be needed to continue benefiting from their effects.

Results from dermal fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane will be immediately apparent, and will typically last for about a year or more depending on the patient and the severity of their concerns. Most patients can plan on scheduling annual maintenance appointments to continue enjoying their improved appearance from these HA fillers.
